If you didn't feel the cold yet these days then you should when listening to the icy sounds of False Mirror on their second studio album North.
The theme on this album made by the German Tobias Hornberger is the Arctic region and the travels that have been made to that cold Nordic area and this you'll hear professionally translated to an sonic journey on this album. With all sorts of sounds and deep long-stretched drones an atmosphere is created which makes you feel like you are actually in the Polar region yourself. The sound of deep waters, sounds that seem like clashing ice shelves and the razor sharp polar wind and the snow, ensure you'll be dragged into that endless white world of the Arctic regions in a time when most of the area was still unexplored for the duration of the 5 tracks which lasts over 70 minutes. As if the explorer is lost in this desolate area and is searching his way back home in the intense freezing cold.
Many of the sounds have been made with acoustic instruments, such as guitar, gong and mouth harp, which then have been manipulated and processed with effects. You'll also hear actual field recordings from the Atlantic ocean and sounds that have been recorded during a heavy storm.
North is a very imaginative ambient release. The cd is packed into a cover with an image of a very beautiful painting by Sylvia Riester inspired by the Nordic fjords. This is ambient / drone music that is very much recommendable to those who love this kind of music. Comparable to the work that is released by Glacial Movements, Drone Records and Cyclic Law.
